Music in Islam

Published December 19, 2013 by Murk Shaikh

music is soothing to soul thats what many people say and think, but sometimes it masters our soul in a way that it direct ourselves to shirk.

Sometimes few of the things become so common in our lives that, we dont consider them as bad or something prohibitted, music is also one of them it is spreading so rapidly, that it has become a part of our daily life even it is played in almost all the restaurants and deparmental stores.

Young generation is so much obsessed that they like to listen to it almost all the time,
while going to bed or doing homework or doing any other chores they want that noise in the background, but if we think this issue critically it actually is misleading us, Everything that is around has some harmful as well as useful effects if we feel it as something relaxing or soothing, but it is addictive too, we must not allow things to take control over us,
There is a saying that let not the world lead you but you should lead the world.

Many muslims consider music to be allowed in Islam, there are great different opinions as far as Muslims are concerned whether music is allowed or not,

There is no verse in Quran directly prohibitting music, but there are indications, Allah pak says in Quran in surah Luqman verse no:6

” And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur’an) by way of mockery.
For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).”                                                  This idle tales probably refers to unislamic songs and music tales, as far as Prophet prohibitting music there are various Sahih hadith, so If you read the hadith of Muhammad SAW there will be no doubt whether it is permitted or not.

Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW says: it is mentioned in Sahih bukhari hadith No:5590 volume 7:

“There will be some people who will consider illegal fornication, the wearing of silk, drinking of Alcohol and use of musical instruments as lawful.

This hadith shows certain things that are prohibitted and musical instruments are mentioned among them.

There are other Sahih hadith that permit some musical instruments as halal say duff tambourine) if we read hadith of sahih bukhaari vol 5 hadith number 4001:

“Narrated Ar-Rubal’ hint
Mu’awwidh: The Prophet jW came to me
after on the morning of consummating my
marriage and sat down on my bed, as you
(the subnarrator) are sitting now, and small
girls were beating the tambourine and singing
in lamentation of my fathers who had been
killed on the day of the battle of Badr. Then
one of the girls said, “There is a Prophet
amongst us who knows what will happen
tomorrow.” The Prophet ç said (to her),
“Do not say this, but go on saying what you
have spoken before.”

In the above hadith it is clear that music is prohibitted, except only tambourine, and something that is prohibitted from Allah pak we shouldnot adopt it in our lives.
I heard somewhere that “Momin ke liye dunya ek Qaid khaana hai” i really like these lines. this world is like an aazmaaish for us as there is a saying ” as you sow, so shall you reap”  so whatever we are doing in this Dunya,
we,ll have to face its consequences at the end.
May Allah pak makes this exam of dunya easier for us.:)

Why is it that we start to feel worth of things when we lose them or when we see them out of our reach?

Everytime we go out or we look at other people,s belonging may it be their property, fancy things or anything like that, we envy it we say why dont we have that thing?

or sometime when we are working for something so hard, making all of our efforts and praying hard to get that thing and at the end if we don’t get that we blame on Allah pak for not fulfilling our prayers.

we lose our trust on Him, our prayers become shorter we lose our belief this is what happens to many of us, but Do we ever stop for a While and Thank Allah for those countless blessings?

Why do we complain for those few things that we haven’t got in this life and neglecting those millions and billions of blessings that are giving to us even without asking him for them?

Allah pak has been bestowing us with so many things we take things for granted, we will only realize their worth when they are lost.. Say for example we are given two eyes, do we Thank Allah for this? Can you get them back when they are lost?

Do we think what our life would be if we don’t have our eyes..

This life is an Exam what ever we get here is for testing us that how we are going to be with that? Are we going to use that thing positively in helping others or we are just going to harm people with whatever is given to us?

Allah pak makes us happy and he wants us to be thankful to him and he makes us Sad to do Sabr and shukar.

Nothing can happen against His will, even a leaf cannot fall against his will then why do we think that whatever harm we get from people or whenever we feel sad is not from Allah pak, or whatever happiness we get is not from Him, Infact He is the

one who by bringing different situations checks us that who is the most pious and believing amongst us.

Its the responsibility of each of us to be good and to do good, by this only we will be prosperous in this world and the other world too, instead of feeling jealous of others we should try to look at our own blessings.

Sometimes we are unsatisfied with our lives while many people in this world are dreaming of living our lives:)

So Be happy and always be thankful:)
